    Okinawa

So I finally did it, I left the country! Well not forever just for one month. I am now currently in Okinawa, Japan which is like a mixture of Hawaii and West Virginia. I know that sounds really weird, but it's true. The sea looks a lot like hawaii, it's so clear that you can see the bottom. But there are a lot of delaptated old buildings here that arent' taken care of which makes it look like parts of WV. Amanda and I left Dullas airport at 12:00 on June 11th and had a 14 hour flight to Narita airport (well it's called Tokyo but it's not actually in Tokyo) and then we hopped a plane to Okinawa. Our first flight was really good, there were tv screens in the back of every seat and I got to watch Ghost Rider, Music and Lyrics, Rocky Balboia (I think I misspelled that) and started watching a Japanese movie called Bubble (something) Fact or Fiction? which is about a Japanese girl who goes back in time  to 1990 to stop the Japanese economy from crashing. Her time machine was a washing machine. It was actually pretty funny. So right now I am suffering from jetlag pretty badly. But yesterday we got to go shopping and I am looking into buying a Mac laptop at the BX which doesn't have any tax so what price you see is what you pay. My old Dell laptop died horribly but I'm still hoping to get some of the programs off of it. (expessially my graphic design ones) apparently I just overworked it.

I finished up with my first full year at a the school system. I was kept so busy at the end of the year discarding old books, doing inventory (Which I found to be the bane of my exsistance) , and tracking down students who had lost books. This year we lost around 100 books which is not so bad considering my list was 300 a few days before school ended. Travis graduated this year. I had to set with the staff in hot black robes. I actually brought my iPod to listen to during the ceremony but got placed closest to the crowd so didn't have a chance. I also brought my camcorder, but the stupid batterdy died right before Travis walked across the stage. Is that dumb or what? I hate Murphey's Law.

    The End of Nanowrimo

Walking outside today, it felt like spring. It had that nice cool little breeze but it was pretty much very warm. The only problem is that it's December and we should be having snow not some Indian Summer. To make matters worse, the library has been so hot today. We can't control the AC. So everyone was misrable. Apparently it is supposed to cool down tomorrow. We'll see. Tomorrow night I'll be in the Festival of Lights. I'll be with the other reencators walking down main street carrying laterns and the like. That is if we can actually find the stuff we need!

Do you like my new page design? I've been in a drawing kick ever since I hit 50,000 words of my novel. This is one of the things. It is somewhat inspired by my Aunt Nana. She has a tendency to give very festive kind of clothes. On Thanksgiving, she gave the Black Friday group in our family t-shirts. She holds up one that says 'Girls Just Being Girls' and it's pink...not just pink but pink with yellow daisies on it. When your aunt pulls something like this out of a bag, it is not a good thing to say, "Do you have one in black?"  I was then informed that to suck it up and that it matched my hair...(-_-)()

I'll be the first one to admit that my hair needs to redyed. The front is all pink and blonde. I think I'll just dye my hair a few more times before just dying it all black again. During blaack friday we ran into Paul and Nicole from my church who thought it was funny that I was wearing pink. Our coversation basically went something like this:

    Paul: You're in pink...

    Me: Yeah..I hate it

P: It's just so...weird to see you in pink...

M: Yeah, I can't help it, my aunt forced us all to wear these

P: At least it matches your hair

    M: *sighs*

Anyway, got lots of great stuff on Black Friday. *sighs* My favorite holiday. I got a TiVo for Christmas, with Travis drooling over it it didn't quite make it to Christmas. We haven't hooked it up yet, it might be something to do over the weekend.

Anyway, as I mentioned before I got all 50,000 words in, actually it was 160 some over. I didn't finish the novel though. There are still chunks missing from it. I finally came up with a title for it. It's called 'Children of the Gods' It's a time travel novel where a brother, a sister, and the antagonist get transported back to Ancient Egypt during the Amarna period which is the 18th dynsty. It takes place during reign of King Tutankhaten. Actually towards the end casue King Tut kicks the bucket during the 10th chapter. He doesn't even play a main part or anything. bahaha. This will probably be my last nano post this year...yeah you can stop cheering. But I will talk about it come next October or so. Then I hope some of you will join me in this insaneness!

  • Nanowrimo

I know I haven't posted in a long time. This is mainly because Xanga is blocked at the school which I work. Probably a good thing because I would never get anything done. My hair is now pink in the front. Some time I will upload the pictures, maybe today after church.

As far as work goes, most of my days are spent working on the web page. I will provide a link when posted and fully completed. The librarian constantly says how surprised she is that I enjoy working on it so much but I tell her that design was what I went to school for. My days aren't nearly as exciting as Amanda's who constantly comes home with stories of how her kids are acting and behaving, plus stories of out breaks of lice and other icky things that goes around the school. I'm glad to be in high school where we just worry about the flu.

Last weekend we went down to Pidgeon Forge to see the lights and go shopping. There were whole sculptures of Christmas Lights. On the medium we saw one that considered of four phones with parrots on them. We were all like 'huh? did they get that on on sale because no one wanted it?' about five feet latter, we saw a bird over five rings of lights and it finally dawned on me. "Four calling birds, then five golden rings" we all laughed over that. My brother and dad were pretty good sports considering we shopped all the time, which is rare for me.

Speaking of shopping, I can't wait until Black Friday. It is so nice now that I have money to actually spend but I found that I have already done a lot of my christmas shopping, so I might just buy things for me. Or something.

But beside work, my life has revolved around Nanowrimo, the insane attempt at writing a novel in a month.

Well my hair is now blue. This is actually the second time I have dyed it. It washes out in 15 washes. The first time it was this light teal blue which the people at the hair cuttery just adored and I got my picture taken. The second time I asked for purple and it turned out a dark blue. Next I'm going to look at examples of the colors and either try again for puprle or go hot pinkish. I'm not really sure yet. I'll probably be going tonight.

Well we had the reenactment this weekend. Everyone in the county seemed to come, I saw many of my students. Mom went overboard on the ladies tea and there were ribbons, bows, and roses everywhere. Very Victorian. We tried a lot of new recipies and everyone had a good time. The biggest hit was little cucumber sandwitches that everyone loved. Travis is no longer part of this family. During the weekend, he galvanized and was a yankee. He tried to argue that there was only 100 yankees and that they needed someone. Yeah. Right. Anyway, it's kind of funny when you think about it. I mean, the rebs lost and there's more of us then the Yankees. I believe it's because everyone loves an underdog.

The next couple of months are going to prove to be very busy. Next week, Mom, Manda and I are going to be starting a cake decorating class at Michaels. I think I'm the most excited out of the three. I love the cake decorating shows and compititions on the Food Network and I'm sure it'll be fun. Come November I'll be doing  NaNoWriMo or National November Writing Month. Basically you knock out a 150 page novel in a month, starting November 1st ending at midnight Nov 30th. It's really fun to do but completely insane. But a lot of people do it, so I'm not the only really insane one. Go to nanowrimo.org for more info. It's really fun in a crazy sort of way. I tried it last year and didn't get as far as I wanted, no doubt because I was trying to graduate and all.

About Me

  • I'm a 24 year old alumni of LU. I'm a graphic design major which gives me the right to be strange from time to time. But now I am working as a librarian in a high school. I am a Christian which is a very big part of my life. I'm a comic book/anime fan which is sort of strange to most people since I'm a girl.
